Fairy Tail: RE Beginner’s Guide – Early Progress, Magic Unlocking, Leveling, and Codes

Updated: April 4, 2026  ·  Reading time: ~4 min

Fairy Tail: RE starts simply, but the early progression can feel confusing if you don’t know where to go after unlocking your first magic.

After running through the full progression myself a few times, this is the route that always ends up being the smoothest — with minimal backtracking and no wasted leveling.

This guide walks you from:

  • Level 1 → Level 20
  • Unlocking your first and second magic
  • Moving from the Starter Town → Fjord Desert
  • Understanding meditation, passives, rerolls, classes, and experience books

Everything here uses only mechanics available to new players, no paid boosts or unfair grinding expectations.

1. Tutorial & Start Area

When you first load in, the game places you inside a brief introductory tutorial. It teaches:

  • Movement and dash
  • Blocking and heavy attacks
  • Interacting with NPCs

You can complete it normally — nothing in the tutorial affects your later build.

Once finished, you’ll appear in the Starter Town, where progression really begins.

2. Leveling to 10 Using the Mission Board

Instead of wandering around looking for NPC quests, walk directly to the Mission Board in town.

You’ll see a list of missions.

Press X while looking at the board to refresh it.

Look specifically for: Grandpa Paloo

This mission is quick and efficient because:

  • The target is close
  • You don’t waste time traveling
  • The fights are easy for early levels

Process:

  1. Press X on the mission board
  2. When you see Grandpa Paloo, accept it
  3. Complete → Return → Refresh → Repeat

This comfortably gets you to Level 6.

Once the game stops offering Grandpa Paloo (this happens naturally), take whichever mission is available until you reach Level 10.

3. Unlocking Your First Magic at Level 10

Once you reach Level 10:

  1. Follow the green icon on your screen to the Magic Instructor NPC
  2. Talk to them twice
  3. Press M to open the Menu
  4. Go to the Magic tab
  5. Check the Mana requirement for your first magic (usually 5 Mana)
  6. Open Stats → Allocate 5 Mana
  7. Return to Magic tab → Unlock Spell

You now have your first spell.

This is the point where fighting starts to feel like a Fairy Tail game instead of just M1 spamming.

4. Traveling to the Fjord Desert (Next Story Area)

Many new players get lost here — the path isn’t obvious the first time.

Here is the exact route:

  1. Go to the Ship NPC (anchor icon on screen)
  2. Buy a Rowboat
  3. Sail toward the anchor marker
  4. When more map icons start appearing, turn left
  5. Continue sailing until you see desert structures
  6. Disembark and walk forward to the settlement
  7. Talk to the NPC inside to set your spawn

Setting spawn here prevents you from respawning back in town, which saves a lot of frustration.

5. Meditation System (How to Increase Magic Capacity)

Meditation is needed whenever you want to increase your mana cap for better spells.

How to meditate:

  1. Press M
  2. Equip Meditation
  3. Use it in an open area

Colored orbs appear.

Click them when they float in range to increase mana capacity.

If your meditation seems slow — that’s normal the first time. It takes a few minutes before the message “Power Cap Reached” appears.

This means you’re able to unlock higher magic levels now.

6. Rerolling Your Magic (Codes Included)

Open chat and enter these codes (if active):

CodeEffect
WE SO BACKMagic Reroll
2.8K LIKESMagic Reroll
CERTIFIED TESTERStat Reset

To use rerolls:

  1. Open Inventory
  2. Equip Magic Reroll
  3. Open Magic tab
  4. Click your current magic → Reroll

You can check magic rarity chances at the Magic Shop icon.

If you’re unhappy with what you rolled, meditate again and try new spells later.

7. Buying Experience Books to Skip Grinding (Optional but Efficient)

If combat feels slow, you can level faster using Experience Books.

ItemCostUse
Small Book of Experience~5,000 CoinsGives small XP
Grand Book of ExperienceHigherGives a large XP burst

You’ll find these at the Magic Menu’s Shop Tab.

Using 2–4 Grand Books can push you from Level 16 → 20 easily.

I found this especially helpful when I didn’t want to grind mobs in the desert.

8. Ranking Up at Level 20 & Unlocking Your Second Magic

Once you reach Level 20:

  1. Return to the Magic Instructor
  2. Select Rank Promotion
  3. You’ll move from D → C Rank

Now:

  • Check your Magic tab
  • Your second spell becomes unlockable
  • It typically requires 10 Mana, so adjust your stats accordingly

The second spell usually provides your first major damage or mobility spike, which changes your fight pacing noticeably.

9. Stat Passives (Movement Tech Unlocks From Stats)

As you assign stats, you unlock Passive Movement Abilities automatically.

Example:

  • Higher Agility unlocks Flash Step (short-range teleport dash)
  • Strength increases melee combo efficiency
  • Mana controls spell unlocks

This is why some players appear to move “faster” — they aren’t using a gamepass, they are just stat-scaled.

10. Weapons & Armor (Optional Customization)

You can purchase:

  • Cosmetic outfits (if you want drip)
  • The Rapier weapon, which many players try early on

These don’t replace magic progression, but they can adjust combat feel.
