I ran the entire Cultist Lair arc on Terrapin Island from scratch, including every door, elevator, and NPC task.
This is a clean, step-by-step route you can follow to unlock everything without getting stuck on missing items or time-of-day quirks.
What you need before you start
- Access to Terrapin Island.
- A Sea Turtle (Terrapin Island mythical). You can catch it on Terrapin; having one in advance speeds up the opener.
- A few event/rarity boosters (Aurora, Luck) for key/fish drops.
- Some relics on hand: Sparkling and Shiny if you have them.
- The Great Dreamer rod (for a later mission that needs the “Cursed” mutation passive). If you don’t have it yet, you can still progress most of the lair and return for that step.
Tip from my runs: turn on your radar when fishing for keys or specific species; abundance windows save a lot of time.
How to enter the Cultist Lair
- Go to Terrapin Island and wait for night.
- Speak to the cloaked cultist NPC near the docks (he changes dialogue at night). He’ll ask for a Sea Turtle.
- Hand in the Sea Turtle and he’ll give you a note with cave coordinates. Even without the note, the door can be opened if you meet the conditions below.
- Use a Mist Totem at the marked cave entrance at night. A hidden lever appears. Pull it to open the path.
- Enter the Lair Hub. You’ll see three cultist NPCs and a sealed door requiring a key.
Lair Hub: the three starting missions
You can do these in any order. Each mission rewards a fragment toward a larger amulet.

Notes from testing:
- The Exotic Key for the first door drops from the lair pool (I’ve had it from active fishing and from passive drops). Use Aurora to speed it up.
Door 1: Sparkling relic + Albino Moonwood
At the back of the hub is an altar and a sealed door. To open it you need:
- Exotic Key (from lair fishing).
- Sparkling Enchant Relic (place it on the altar).
- Albino Moonwood.
How I did Albino Moonwood fast:
- Catch Moonwood in Snowcap.
- Use a Mutation Totem to turn it Albino.
- Place the Albino Moonwood on the altar with the key + Sparkling relic.
The door opens to an elevator. Ride it down.
Floor 2: the Archives
You’ll land in a library-like area with more notes, an NPC, and another sealed door later.
Mission: Collect Corrupted Books (8)
- Talk to the green-marked Archivist NPC.
- Find 8 glowing “off-color” books on shelves around the room (they shimmer slightly).
- Turn them in for another fragment.
Also on this floor:
- You can fish a second Exotic Key in the local pool (use Aurora again).
- This door also requires an Ancient Wood component, identified to a specific variant.
Door 2: Shiny relic + Ancient Wood (identified)
To open the second elevator door, place:
- Exotic Key (new key from this floor’s fishing).
- Shiny Enchant Relic on the altar.
- An identified Ancient Wood component.
Where I got the wood:
- Catch Ancient Wood on Sunstone Island.
- Identify it to the required variant (you’ll see a “Darned”/darkened or similar tag after appraisal; the altar only accepts the correct ID’d variant).
- Place Ancient [variant] on the altar with the Shiny Relic and the Exotic Key.
Door opens. Take the elevator again.
Floor 3: Passage of Oas
This area has branching tasks and another deeper elevator.
The two collection missions up here
You’ll meet NPCs who ask for the following:
- Light 10 lanterns
- You’re given a candle to hold.
- Many lanterns are near pillars, corners, and along the paths between rooms.
- A few easy misses: behind pillars in the first room, on raised ledges, and near the stair transitions.
- Collect all notes
- Notes are scattered across the same walkways where you find the lanterns.
- I found it faster to do lanterns and notes together in one sweep from entrance → back rooms → return.
Turn-ins award fragments.
The deeper request: Cursed Catuludi
Take the elevator further down (from floor 3) and you’ll meet a cultist asking for a Catuludi with the “Cursed” mutation.
- This mutation comes from the Great Dreamer rod’s passive.
- Wait for the Catuludi Abundance (radar shows a red hotspot where it spawns).
- Fish Catuludi during abundance with Great Dreamer equipped so the catch can roll the Cursed mutation.
- Turn it in. You receive the Lucy Reel (used later for rod crafting).
Assembling the Dreamer Amulet
By now, you’ll have multiple fragments from:
- Fish set turn-in (Fragment of Maelira).
- Cultist marks (Fragment of Eldran).
- Corrupted books (Archive fragment).
- Lanterns and notes (two more fragments).
- The lower-floor Cursed Catuludi turn-in leading to Lucy Reel.
Talk to the crafting cultist on floor 3 once you’ve finished the above. He forges the Dreamer Amulet.
Return to the very first cultist (Terrapin night NPC) or to the amuletted door in the lair hub path as prompted. This progresses the storyline.
The Lucid path and the new rod
After handing in the Dreamer Amulet, you’ll be asked for a Lucid Enchanted Relic and pointed toward the Lucid Rod craft.
From my run, the Lucid Rod required:
- Lucy Reel (from the Cursed Catuludi mission).
- Lunar Thread.
- Scrap Metal (found in the lower depths; check chests/ambient drops as you explore).
- A core touch component (in my logs it appeared as “C’s Touch/Sea’s Touch”—the naming can appear slightly different in servers, but it’s a unique craft ingredient tied to the lair progression).
Craft the Lucid Rod at the lair’s crafting spot once you have all parts. The Lucid Enchanted Relic request is tied to having this rod path online.
Fast route summary (if you just want the checklist)
- Night on Terrapin → Hand in Sea Turtle → get cave note.
- Mist Totem at the cave → lever spawns → enter Lair Hub.
- In the Hub:
- Fish 5 species (and likely the Exotic Key) → get Fragment of Maelira.
- Find the 3 cultist marks on Terrapin → Fragment of Eldran.
- Door 1 altar: place Exotic Key + Sparkling Relic + Albino Moonwood → elevator down.
- Archives:
- Collect 8 Corrupted Books → archive fragment.
- Fish another Exotic Key.
- Prepare Ancient Wood (identified) and Shiny Relic.
- Door 2 altar: place Exotic Key + Shiny Relic + Ancient Wood (ID’d) → elevator down.
- Passage of Oas:
- Light 10 Lanterns (with candle equipped).
- Collect all Notes.
- Take lower elevator to the cultist needing Cursed Catuludi.
- Catch Catuludi during abundance with Great Dreamer rod, turn it in → get Lucy Reel.
- Return to the floor-3 crafter with all fragments → craft Dreamer Amulet.
- Hand in Dreamer Amulet at the required door/NPC → unlock Lucid path.
- Gather Lunar Thread + Scrap Metal (depths) + Lucy Reel + core touch component → craft Lucid Rod.
- Provide the Lucid Enchanted Relic when asked to fully clear the chain.
Troubleshooting and small gotchas
- The lever at the cave only shows when it’s night and you’ve used a Mist Totem.
- If a key won’t drop, swap bait and re-roll abundance with Aurora; keys in this chain are Exotic rarity.
- Ancient Wood must be identified to the accepted variant. If the altar rejects it, re-ID another piece.
- The Cursed mutation only appeared for me when the Great Dreamer rod was equipped and abundance was active.
- If the amuletted door doesn’t react, check you’ve handed in all fragments to the crafter first.

Final tips from my clears
- Do lanterns and notes together in the Passage area; it saves backtracking.
- Keep Sparkling and Shiny relics in reserve; each door consumes one.
- Don’t overfish early pools—catch your mission species, then leave Aurora for keys.
- The Lucid Rod components spread across multiple floors; craft it only after you’ve turned in the Dreamer Amulet and collected the Lucy Reel.
