A complete breakdown of the new Tokyo Cathedral island, boss drops, obtainment routes, accessories, and how both mythics perform in real gameplay.
When this update landed in Verse Piece, I jumped in, expecting a grindy and confusing unlock process. Surprisingly, the obtainments for Shinra and Arthur are much simpler than most recent Verse Piece releases.
After spending a few hours farming the new island, testing both characters, enchanting them, and taking them through boss runs, I’ve put everything together in this guide so you know exactly what you’re getting into.
Let’s walk through everything the update added, how to unlock both characters, and how they actually feel to play once you power them up.
Tokyo Cathedral Island
This update introduces a new location called the Tokyo Cathedral, a Fire Force themed zone with a brand-new enemy type: the Sentient Infernals.
From my experience farming them, they have fairly quick respawns and drop three important items:
- Iron
- Infernal Core
- Demon Core
Both Shinra and Arthur’s crafting paths revolve around these, so you will be spending a bit of time here. The mobs aren’t too difficult, but without i-frames they can punish you if you stand still too long.
Shinra – How to Unlock
Shinra is the easier of the two to obtain.
What you need
You only need one item, and it comes from the Shinra boss itself:
-
Adolla Grace (2 percent drop chance)
The boss spawns on the Tokyo Cathedral island.
Once you get the Adolla Grace, you simply use it, and that unlocks Shinra. No crafting table, no complex materials, nothing extra.
I managed to get mine after a handful of kills, but I’ve seen people go dry for a while.
Just keep loops short and consistent.
Arthur – How to Unlock
Arthur’s path is longer, but still not bad compared to other Verse Piece mythics.
Required Materials
To craft Arthur, you need:
- Excalibur (dropped by Arthur boss)
- Demon Core x1 (mobs)
- Infernal Core x25 (mobs)
- Black Iron x1000
- Iron x1500
- Oricalum
The only item that might slow you down is Oricalum, which drops from mining nodes inside the dungeon cave.
It is rare, so expect to spend time hopping servers or doing slow mining loops.
Once you have everything, head to the Blacksmith and craft Arthur.
Compared to the usual mythic requirements, this one felt pretty mild.
Accessories from the Bosses
Both bosses have a chance to drop new accessories. They are nothing game-breaking, but they do help boost overall damage if you do not have much else.
I tried swapping between the new accessories and Hollow Knight during testing. Eventually, I switched back to Hollow Knight because the stat spread felt more balanced for my build.
Your mileage may vary depending on blessings and enchants.
Testing Shinra and Arthur – Raw, Blessed, and Enchanted
After unlocking both, I tested them in three stages:
- Completely raw
- Blessed
- Enchanted with full accessories
Here is how they felt.
Visuals and Feel
Both characters have clean effects, but the most noticeable issue is the lack of sound effects. Attacks feel lighter without audio feedback.
I personally rely on timing cues, so it threw me off more than expected.
Damage Output
With enchants and blessings, the damage is decent. Not incredible, not terrible, just comfortably usable.
Shinra felt slightly smoother because of the forward movement built into his kit.
Arthur had moments where the ranged hitbox felt inconsistent, especially when trying to land multiple hits.
Survivability
This is where things get rough.
Neither Shinra nor Arthur has i-frames in their key abilities. In Verse Piece, where bosses hit extremely hard, that instantly lowers the viability of both characters.
In most runs:
- Kokushibbo V2
- Hollow Knight
- And similar high-end units
could one-shot the same bosses that Shinra and Arthur struggled with.
Without i-frames, you often get caught mid-animation. In solo boss runs, this becomes a serious disadvantage.
Boss Farming Real Performance
I decided to farm the Shinra and Arthur bosses using Shinra and Arthur themselves. It didn’t take long to see the issue:
- Damage is acceptable
- Mobility is fine
- But getting hit is basically guaranteed
Meanwhile, Kokushibbo V2 or Hollow Knight can erase these bosses instantly without taking a scratch.
So while both new units are fun and easy to obtain, neither one slots into the top meta simply because survival tools matter more than flashy moves.
For casual farming, they are fine. For efficiency or endgame grinding, they fall behind.
Thoughts After Playing Both
After spending time with the update, I would sum it up like this:
- The new island is fun and the drops feel rewarding.
- The obtainment routes for both units are very friendly.
- Shinra looks stylish and feels fast.
- Arthur can hit hard, but the ranged move needs consistency fixes.
- Both characters suffer heavily from having no defensive tools.
Right now, even with blessings and enchants, I would not use them for serious boss farming.
The lack of i-frames affects you in every fight, especially in the Tokyo Cathedral bosses where abilities hit frequently and hard.
Still, the update is worth playing simply because it is accessible and introduces two fan-favourite characters without drowning you in grind.
If you are collecting units, you should absolutely grab both. They are easy to unlock, and you never know when the developers decide to buff them.
If you are looking purely at practicality and boss clears, your older top units are still far more efficient.
